Our Story

Fitz Outfitters was born when Joshua "Fitz" FitzPatrick had multiple climbing ropes leftover after a long climbing trip and didn't know what to do with them. At first glance, these climbing ropes appeared to be in good condition, but due to the many years of climbing that they put up with, their integrity could no longer be trusted with a human life. Instead of throwing these ropes away like many climbers have done in the past, Fitz decided to get his sewing machine out and see what he could make. After a few weeks of crafting and prototyping, Fitz came up with a design for a classic D ring belt made out of these ropes.

Throughout the past few years, Fitz Outfitters has grown to accept retired climbing ropes from individual climbers all around the country, along with many other retired climbing ropes from climbing gyms and guide services. Along with the original belts that Fitz made, Fitz Outfitters now offers dog accessories, bracelets, and chalk bags, all made out of these retired climbing ropes, which traditionally would have been thrown out.

Customers of Fitz Outfitters are not just customers, they are part of a community and part of a recycling ecosystem. Each product that we make comes with many memories and experiences behind it. We appreciate our customers for letting these ropes live on in a new way, and we hope that each customer knows how much their support means to us.
